Ready, Set, Go: Time to Meet Those Goals

For a limited time, take advantage of these January Fitness Membership specials created to help you succeed!

· $1 drop-in fitness classes with a membership; $5 for non-members. Valid through 1/31/15.

· Three free drop-in fitness class passes good for future use at Thomas Jefferson Fitness Center if you purchase of an Annual Fitness Membership (Adult, Senior, Employee only) by 1/31/15. (Free passes valid until 2/28/15.)

Parents Night Out

Enjoy a night out from 6-10 p.m. on December 12 at Walter Reed Community Center, while your child (ages 4-11) has a blast, thanks to the Teens Making a Difference Club (T-MAD). Your child will enjoy an evening of games, art and fun. The T-MAD Club is sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation and teaches high school youth leadership skills. Teens created this program as one way to help parents and give back to their own community. Register here and use activity code 970008.

Hendry House’s 9th Annual Holiday House

The Hendry House at Fort C.F. Smith Park in Arlington is hosting the ninth annual Holiday House. The Holiday House is a juried arts & crafts sale by local artisans, which will be open Dec. 6-14. The weekend hours are Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday hours are noon to 8 p.m. The traditional children’s corner with items priced under $15 will return.

Community Kudos

Community Tree Planting in Penrose

Casey Trees, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit committed to enhancing the area’s tree canopy, along with the community, planted 27 trees in Butler Holmes Park last weekend. Nearly 50 volunteers showed up to assist in the efforts to restore Penrose’s lost tree canopy. The community was out in full force along with Urban Forestry Commission members, Parks and Recreation staff and, of course, volunteers from the entire DC region. Thank you!

Arlington Flag Football Teams Head to Nationals

Two of Arlington’s NFL Flag Football teams dominated the Washington Redskins Regional Tournament, winning the regional championship and advancing to the NFL Flag Championships that will be held during Super Bowl Week in Phoenix! Arlington’s 10-under coed and 14-under girls’ teams will be guests of the NFL for the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl Media Day. NFL Flag Football is a national non-contact flag program. Arlington has one of the top 20 biggest leagues in the U.S. with more than 810 youth participating. For full details click here.

Trips Pick Up and Drop Off from Thomas Jefferson Community Center

Rebounderz and Sudden Combat Trip

December 30 • 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Two trips in one day! Come and bounce the day away at Rebounderz in Sterling, one of the area’s largest indoor trampoline arenas. Afterward, venture next door for extreme laser tag at Sudden Combat, the first scenario gaming experience powered by the iCombat /irTactical system in Northern Virginia. Price includes one hour of trampoline jump time and one hour of laser tag. There will be time for lunch in between (not included). Please bring lunch or extra money for concessions as well as games. Central Park Funland in Fredericksburg

December 29 • 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Four hours of UNLIMITED RIDES, ATTRACTIONS & VIDEO GAMES at Central Park Funland. Ten (10) indoor rides and attractions such as: Laser Tag, Bumper Cars, Rock Wall Climbing, Mini Bowling, the Himalaya and Spinning Teacups. As a BONUS, $5 has been added for each partic­ipant to play some of these games. Each participant will receive two slices of pizza and a 16 oz. drink. Farmers’ Markets Open All Winter!

Vendors will be selling fruit, vegetables, baked goods, dairy products, meat, eggs and honey all through the winter.
