Virginia Cooperative Extension Annual America Saves Essay Contest
Open to high school students ages 14 and older in 9-12th grade. Students must attend an Arlington County or City of Alexandria high school.
Theme: Small Savings can lead to Big Impacts
Deadline: Friday, Feb. 10, 5pm EST
Awards: 1st place - $600, 2nd place - $400, 3rd place - $200
More details: Essays must be 250-500 words, typed and double spaced. Essays must be submitted as attachments to Meggan Orenstein via email to mkco214@vt.edu. Essay submission deadline is Friday, Feb. 10, 5pm EST. Please include in your submission: your name, email address, phone number and name of your high school.
Please answer the following question in your essay:
1) How have you and your family started with a small savings plan, but eventually achieved a big goal?
In addition to submitting the essay, contestants must complete and submit the America Saves Pledge. Submitted essays will be judged by VCE Master Financial Education Volunteers. Judges will grade the essays on relevancy to the theme; consistency & continuity of style; expression of thoughts; clarity; readability, spelling, grammar & punctuation and overall presentation.
The prizes will be awarded at a ceremony during America Saves Week on Thursday, March 2nd, 2017 at Fairlington Community Center.
