Junior Jam Summer Program

Looking for an exciting, well-rounded program for your 11-16 year old? The Junior Jam drop-in program is ideal for kids who already have a busy summer schedule but still want to make new friends and enjoy summer favorites such as field trips, special events, sports, swimming, music, arts, cooking projects, group games and tournaments and more!

Sign up for all eight weeks for a low, one-time registration fee of $46* for Arlington residents (There is extra cost for trips). Don’t let fees be a barrier. Arlington County residents may request a fee reduction!

Please note that while teens are encouraged to stay at the site, this is a drop-in program that allows teens to come and go. For youth needing more accountability, consider a camp program that requires parental consent to leave during the program hours.

CREATIVE ART CAMP:

ART EXPLORERS @ ARLINGTON MILL

Join us for an action packed week of creativity and

art! This half-day program will give young artists an

opportunity to experiment with exciting art materials

and explore artworks throughout art history and from around the globe. Each day will focus on a specific technique, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmakingand collage. Each session has its own unique theme and activities. Campers should wear clothes that they can get messy. Bring a snack each day. Five-year-olds must have completed kindergarten or a similar all day

program. Staff to participant ratio 1:10.

Operation Rescue Ready

June 26, 9a.m.-5p.m.: the perfect day for a disaster! Teens are invited to Thomas Jefferson Community Centertoparticipate in an adventurous, hands-on, emergency response scenario alongside Arlington’s public safety and emergency response teams and the American Red Cross. Partake in a real-time disaster drill, hands only CPR training, info sessions. Learn more about careers in fire rescue, police and Red Cross and walk away better prepared for an emergency situation. Trail Tales Kick Off – Free Event

Join us at Long Branch Nature Center, Saturday, June 14, 10a.m. - noon for some summer reading fun to celebrate our new park program, Trail Tales. We will walk along our trails and read the book Woodlice by Siân Smith, do crafts and meet the real life critter from our book with park naturalists. Annual Firefly Festival

Celebrate summer’s natural night lights, June 29, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Fort C.F. Smith. Have fun and learn all about the critters that light up the night. iCan Bike camp, July 28-Aug. 1 atKenmore Middle School, is designed to help individuals with disabilities (ages 8+) learn how to ride a bike independently. Want Trees?

Tree Canopy Fund program was created to increase the tree canopy in Arlington County by planting trees on private property and supporting maintenance of champion trees and public education and outreach projects. This year the program will onlyoffer large trees, with mature height ranging from 40 to 100 feet. Groups eligible to receive grants for tree planting include civic and homeowner associations, community nonprofit organizations, civic service clubs, church or school-related groups, and ad hoc neighborhood groups. The tree canopy fund can be used to plant trees on any private property location including homeowner’s yards, condo association property, apartment property, places of worship property, and in private clubs.
