  • Improves access to County Human Services building

ARLINGTON, VA – The Arlington County Board at its June 14 meeting endorsed a plan to extend the ART 45 route along Columbia Pike to Carlin Springs Road, 8th Road South, and South Greenbrier Street, beginning August 15.

The expanded ART 45 will serve several Metrobus 16G bus stops through the Columbia Heights West neighborhood. The expansion of this route provides improved access to the Department of Human Services

(DHS) building for those who live both north and south of the western end of Columbia Pike. Additionally, service through Lyon Park to Rosslyn Metro will be realigned to serve Court House Metro. The new bus route will start on August 15.

“ART 45 carries nearly 500 passengers a day, and this expanded service will bring even higher ridership,” says County Board Chairman Christopher Zimmerman. “The new route will provide a needed direct connection between Columbia Heights West and the Warren G. Stambaugh Human Services Center – and also maintain the important connection between the Rosslyn Metrorail station and Columbia Pike.”

During the FY2012 budget process, the County Board responded to requests from residents and advocates that staff examine the ART 45 route to determine how best to provide direct service between DHS and the Columbia Heights West community. This expanded ART 45 route meets those needs.
