Water Relining on S. Dinwiddie St.
Post date: Oct 6, 2012 5:37:29 PM
An emergency water main relining and reconnection is scheduled to begin on or about November 12, 2012 (depending on the weather) on S. Dinwiddie Street, between 8th St. S and S. Columbus Street. These repairs are necessary to prevent future water main break due to current leakage and old age of the existing 20 inch cast-iron water pipe.
There will be three access pits made to facilitate the insertion of the liner and allow reconnection work right after. The first access pit is behind the sidewalk at the intersection of S. Columbus St. and Columbia Pike. The second access pit is approximately in the middle of block, between 9th St. S and Columbia Pike. The third access pit will be located at the sidewalk next to the entrance to of the proposed Arlington Community Center. The second and third pits will be located on S. Dinwiddie St. Insertion equipment and boilers will be positioned over the access pit. Existing sidewalk on the south side of S. Dinwiddie St. will not be blocked, including access to the bus stops.
The estimated total time to complete this project is two weeks, depending on the weather. Work will be continuous until the liner is fully cured. Pressure and bacteria tests will be performed prior to reconnecting the main to the water system.
Some inconveniences will occur, such as parking restrictions during construction, traffic detours, street closures, dust, and noise. We will do our best to minimize both the magnitude and number of occurrences of these disruptions. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period.
