Spring bulbs can enhance your garden, but you may have wondered what to plant, which bulbs are less tasty to squirrels and other wildlife, how to select among the many options and how to store the bulbs until planting time. Tuesday, October 21―Home Composting With Leaf Litter, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Fairlington Community Center, 3308 S. Stafford St., Arlington. Learn how to use all those autumn leaves to enrich and improve your garden soil. This program will provide basic instructions and information on how to start composting at home, what to put in a compost pile, how to maintain it so the materials break down properly, and how to make good use of finished compost. Thursday, October 23―Trees of Walter Reed, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Walter Reed Community Center, 2909 16th St. S., Arlington. Arlington County Extension Agent Kirsten Buhls and VCE Master Gardeners will briefly discuss tree selection for specific locations, followed by a tree walk to see the varieties of trees at the center.
