Want Trees?

Arlington County’s Natural Resources Division is providing a variety of native tree species for residents. Tree height varies with species but generally ranges between two to four feet. For more info or to register for your tree visit our tree distribution page.

Arlington Families Unplugged

Upgrade your family downtime at our monthly, low-cost Saturday programs. Join us Saturday, September 13 at Barcroft Sports and Fitness Center, from 7-9 p.m. for Family Tumbling and Gymnastics. We feature a variety of fun recreational activities (examples include cooking, active play, nature activities, creative arts, sports, and more). Class sizes are limited, registration is required. Glencarlyn Park Ribbon Cutting

The improvements at Glencarlyn Park are now complete. On Monday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m., 301 S. Harrison Street, join members of the Arlington County Board and the community in celebrating the completion of the Arlington Forest Neighborhood Conservation improvements! Come see the youth playground featuring a sand-play area with boulders, a climbing structure and swings and other new environmentally-friendly features and amenities. Free kids’ activities including face painting and a scavenger hunt.

Native Plant Sale

Want to improve your yard for local birds and butterflies? Grow native! Saturday, September 20, 1-4 p.m. at Long Branch Nature Center, we are offering a great selection of plants from sun to shade and even deer resistant plants. Visit our event page to see a full list of plants.

Latinoamerican Festival

Head to Kenmore Middle School on Sunday, September 28 during Hispanic Heritage Month as dancers and musicians bring the exciting folk traditions of several Latinoamerican countries to Arlington. National Public Lands Day

Join community volunteers, Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m. - noon, to reclaim the natural area in Benjamin Banneker Park from invasive plants. This is a continuing project on the fourth Saturday of each month. For more info visit our web page.

Space Available at Gunston Preschool—Register Now!

Arlington County half-day Creative Preschools are designed to provide children ages 3-5 with their first social group experience outside the home. Emphasis is placed on experiencing age-appropriate recreation activities, being part of a group, cooperating, listening, sharing, developing play and movement skills and discovering nature. There are still openings available for Tuesdays and Thursdays at Gunston. Programs run from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. from September to May. For more info visit our website or call 703-228-4742.

Northern Virginia Senior Olympics

The 2014 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics will be held September 13-24. Adults (50+) who live in one of the sponsoring jurisdictions will be competing in over 50 events at 19 venues throughout Northern Virginia. The public is invited to attend all events with no admission fee. Opening day, Sat., Sept. 13 at Thomas Jefferson Community Center will feature a three mile walk at 8 a.m., opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. followed by track and rowing events. At 3 p.m., diving competition will take place at the Yorktown High School Pool, 5200 Yorktown Blvd., Arlington. For more info visit www.nvso.us.
