VCE Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia (Alexandria/Arlington) have scheduled the following free events in April 2014. We hope you will be able to share this information widely with your neighbors, friends, and family.

Series of Wednesday evening programs on Urban Gardening, April 9, 16, 23 and 30, 7 to 9 p.m., Arlington Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy St., Arlington. This series, taught by Arlington Food Assistance Center volunteers and by VCE Master Gardeners, is designed to teach gardening skills to a wide audience. Topic will include composting and soil testing, starting the spring garden, container gardening, and water, irrigation and rain barrels. Thursday, April 24—Opening of Alexandria’s new Lee Center Plant Clinic, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria 22314. The plant clinic will be open every Thursday through October 30. VCE Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer plant disease and gardening questions, distribute soil test kits and free seeds, and discuss the resources available to gardeners through VCE.

Saturday, April 26—Carlyle House Plant Clinic, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., 121 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria. Held in conjunction with the Carlyle HouseAnnual Garden Day Herb & Craft Sale.

Saturday, April 26—Alexandria Earth Day, Ben Brenman Park, 4800 Brenman Park Drive,10 a.m. to 2 p.m. VCE Master Gardeners will help staff this event, which will include educational exhibits, demonstrations, hands-on activities for all ages, a tree sale, and more.
