The Trout
Music by, and about, Schubert
IBIS welcomes guest artists Richard Barber, bass and Elizabeth Kluegel, soprano for a performance of Schubert's most enduring work The Trout Quintet, along with the earlier lied drawn from the same inspiration and quoted in the quintet. The program also includes a touching commemorative work by John Harbison (November 19, 1828) and a quicksilver Hommage for piano by Poulenc.
Sunday, November 4 at 4 pm
Rock Spring Church, Arlington--FREE

Northern Lights
Music by Grieg, Sibelius and Rautavaara
A "Champagne & Strings" event: Warm up before the concert with a glass of champagne (or perhaps a shot of vodka?) and an informal chat with violinist Joseph Scheer about these Nordic works, including eerily fascinating music for harp and strings by Rautavaara.

Lyon Park Community Center in Arlington

British Invasion
Music for Harp and Strings
IBIS celebrates England, with music from Arnold Bax, Vaughan Williams, the rarely heard string quartet of Frederick Delius, and our original arrangement of Delius' lush Walk To Paradise Garden. And expect a paean to classic British rock 'n roll as well!
Sunday, February 10 at 4 pm
Rock Spring Church, Arlington--FREE

An Evening of Bach
Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin
Another "Champagne & Strings" offering: violinist Joseph Scheer will dazzle in his continued exploration of Bach's works for solo violin. Join Joe for a toast and a chat before the violinistic pyrotechnics commence! The first installment was a sellout last season.
This concert benefits the Lyon Park Community Center.

Lyon Park Community Center, Arlington

What Joy, What Pain
Music and Poetry in Modernist Vienna
Don't miss this evening of profoundly beautiful music in a magnificent setting. Written on the eve of the 20thcentury, Schoenberg's string sextet Verklarte Nacht bridges the leap from Romanticism into Modernism and sounds, to the modern ear, lush and beautiful. Our program also features the opening sextet from Strauss's opera Capriccio (the composer's musing on the relative merits of music and poetry), and renowned soprano Alessandra Marc performing the final monologue from the same opera, as well as the gorgeous and heartbreaking Marietta's Lied from Korngold's Die Tote Stadt.
Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 pm
The Belmont Mansion, Washington DC
$25
