Columbia Heights West Civic association (CHWCA) has an exciting opportunity to participate on an Art Advisory Panel for a public artwork to be located near Columbia Pike and South Jefferson Street.

I am hopeful to identify someone from our community that  can serve on this Panel.

Would you interested in participating in the Art Advisory Panel for the Arlington County Public Art Program? Please contact me at lmancilla- at - gmail.com by June 30th

Please read below for more details

Thanks

In conjunction with the County’s streetscape improvements along Columbia Pike the Public Art Program has an opportunity to create a public artwork near Columbia Pike and South Jefferson Street. This is an important location -- it is one of the ten official entrances to the County  and we hope this project will set the tone for public art and design enhancements along Columbia Pike.

As a member of the Art Advisory Panel for this project we would ask you to:

·         Attend a meeting to learn about the context of the streetscape project and to provide input on the goals for the public art project. I will provide draft goals for you to read ahead of time and ask for your feedback at the meeting.  The goals will be used to evaluate the artists who apply and, later, the selected artist’s concept proposal, so your input is very important to developing goals that match the community’s aspirations and concerns. The meeting would last approximately 2 hours and would include a visit to the site.  (mid Aug)

 ·         Meet to review the artists/teams who submitted their credentials. Artists will respond to a Request for Qualifications. You will review and assess those who have been deemed technically qualified by a panel of County staff and select a ranked list of two to three artists/teams for Public Art staff to interview.  You can expect this meeting to last about 3 hours. (September)

 ·         Meet to review the design concept created by the selected artist/team and provide feedback.   (early Spring 2013)
·         Recommend the final design proposal by the selected artist/team to the Public Art Committee. (late Spring 2013)
