Items to note:

  • Utility duct bank work within the Frederick Street intersection is scheduled to start today and continue for up to two weeks - Crews will excavate short segments of the duct bank trench while maintaining all vehicle movements currently permitted. Flaggers will assist ART buses turning left from Columbia Pike onto South Frederick Street (only buses are currently allowed to make this left turn).
  • Crews are scheduled to begin roadway reconstruction on the south side of Columbia Pike between South Dinwiddie/Columbus Street and South Greenbrier Street in the next two weeks.

Upcoming changes during construction

In the next two weeks, new traffic signals are scheduled to be installed at the Columbia Pike and South Dinwiddie/Columbus Street intersection. During installation, the intersection will remain open with flaggers directing traffic.

Once the signals are installed and activated, a left turn pocket will be opened on westbound Columbia Pike at the South Dinwiddie/Columbus Street intersection. The new signal will have a left turn arrow to help westbound drivers turning left onto Columbus Street.

These changes also will add a left turn signal for southbound South Dinwiddie Street at Columbia Pike, providing a dedicated signal for traffic turning left onto Columbia Pike.

Transit stations construction update

Next week crews are scheduled to begin demolition for the westbound South Buchanan Street station. Once demolition is complete, they will begin to excavate and drill piers for the station foundation.

This work will require weekday closures of one westbound lane of Columbia Pike, next to the construction area at Buchanan Street. The lane will be reopened each day by 3:30 pm.
