Aachen High School Exchange application deadline

Visit Germany this Summer with the
Arlington-Aachen High-School Exchange!
July 8-25, 2017

Application deadline: February 20, 2017

Arlington high-school students are invited to participate in this summer's Arlington-Aachen High-School Exchange. The trip includes a two-week homestay in Arlington's sister city of Aachen plus three days in Berlin, the capital of Germany and one of Europe's most exciting destinations. No knowledge of the German language is required, but if you already speak some German you will definitely improve your language skills on this trip!

During your residence in Aachen you will be hosted by a German teenager and warmly welcomed into his or her family home, where you will experience typical daily life in a way few tourists ever get to see. Each day will feature both organized group visits to nearby historical and cultural sites plus ample free time for socializing with your new German friends. You will spend one day attending high-school with your German host, and may also play sports, take in a concert, try new foods, do some shopping, and learn about Aachen's rich history and vibrant present.

Then it is off for three days in Berlin, where you will stay in a youth hostel in the center of town, take bicycle tours, ride the U-Bahn, and visit the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall, German parliament, and some of the city's most famous museums and galleries.

Applicants must be high-school students between 15 and 18 years of age, and should demonstrate leadership, maturity, and an interest in foreign history and cultures. All participants will also be invited to host a German student in October 2017 during the inbound portion of this exchange.
